Forget Neves: Man Utd should now sign 20yo midfielder turning heads in Brazil for £17.5m
Manchester United should pursue a deal for Corinthians midfielder Breno Bidon during the upcoming winter transfer window.
The Red Devils are likely to reinforce their midfield department at the turn of the year and have already been linked with numerous names.
Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves has recently emerged as a target, with reports suggesting that he could be signed for around £18 million.
Neves has vast Premier League experience from his time with Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he has been away in the Saudi Pro League for the last 30 months.
He is presently on a staggering £293,000 per week in Saudi Arabia, which is tax-free. He could demand at least £200,000 weekly to make the switch to the Red Devils.
In our opinion, the Red Devils would be better off securing a deal for the highly rated Bidon, who has had a fantastic campaign with Corinthians in Brazilian football.
Bidon has made immense progress with Corinthians over the past year. He completed 88 percent of his passes in the recent league season with an average of 4.9 duels and 1.4 tackles won.
The 20-year-old also made four recoveries per game. Outside the Brazilian top flight, he played a big part in Corinthians winning the State Championship and the Brazilian Cup (on Sunday).
Bidon won 100 percent of his tackles (3/3) and seven duels against Vasco da Gama in the final last weekend. He evaded his marker with a fantastic piece of skill in the lead-up to Memphis Depay’s winner (2-1).
Bidon has characteristics similar to those of Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. He has a tireless work rate in the centre of the park and can create chances with quality long balls.
Similar to Wharton, the left-footed ace lacks a strong aerial presence, but he makes up for it with his good ball control and intelligent distribution from the heart of the midfield.
Bidon has lost possession on 8.9 occasions per league game this year, which is much lower than Wharton (11.7) and Neves (14.4). We believe United should make a move for him.
The Red Devils have already been linked with the young Brazilian, and it has been claimed that he could be signed for £17.5 million when the transfer window reopens this winter.
Bidon only earns around £7,500 per week at Corinthians, and could be signed for a £50,000 weekly package. For that price and salary, he would be a good investment for the club.
United have the opportunity to save significant wages by signing him over Neves. They could utilise the funds for the purchase of a marquee defensive midfielder at the end of the season.
The club need to be proactive in pursuing the player, with Napoli, Atletico Madrid and most recently Sporting CP having entered the race to recruit the talented Corinthians midfielder.
