Thomas Frank reveals whether Tottenham will appeal Xavi Simons suspension, ‘I want to’
Xavi Simons has been slapped with a three-match ban in the Premier League for his red card against Liverpool, and Thomas Frank has revealed whether Tottenham Hotspur will challenge this decision.
Tottenham Hotspur have had a rough ride with injuries, including players who have remained sidelined since last season.
Problems with the availability of players in the Tottenham first-team squad continues to be an issue, and recently this has been due to suspensions.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven will each miss an upcoming fixture for Spurs, and Xavi Simons is out for three Premier League matches after receiving a straight red card during his team’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.
Tottenham will not appeal the ban on Xavi Simons
Thomas Frank believes the decision to send off Simons was incorrect, and he would like to appeal the midfielder’s suspension.
However, the Spurs manager has acknowledged that there is little use in the club challenging the decision to ban Simons, because nothing positive will come from this action.
Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur on whether he would like the decision to be appealed, Frank said: “Yeah, I would like to do it. But I know it does make sense [not to appeal] with the way the rules are.
“We can appeal but we’ll get nothing out of it, as I’ve been told. That is what it is.”
Spurs must survive without Simons
Frank may have his opinions on the incident involving Simons, but a challenge of that kind is going to be a red card more often than not.
Spurs fans will point out that this was not the case in a previous fixture with Liverpool when the offending player was wearing red, but the Dutchman cannot really have any complaints.
Tottenham will have to cope without Simons and this means the attacking line must step up and cause a threat. There has to be more creative output if Spurs are to get results and move back up the table.
