Amorim was told about one teenage sensation in 2024, he could now play vs Newcastle

0 9

Manchester United have had a storied history of producing talented wonderkids at Carrington.

One of the current stars of the new generation is Shea Lacey, who recently made his United debut under manager Ruben Amorim.

Lacey came on in the 84th minute in 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, marking a milestone moment in his young career.

The Athletic have now revealed that Amorim was made aware of Lacey as soon as he arrived at United last November.

The 18-year-old has already had numerous chats with the Portuguese about how he could be utilised in his favoured 3-4-2-1 set-up.

Amorim views Lacey as a natural fit for one of the advanced number 10 roles, due to his incisive passing and sharp football intelligence.

The 40-year-old stepped into the job during a period of instability last year, with former manager Erik ten Hag falling short of expectations.

While the immediate priority was steadying first-team performances, Amorim still made time to learn about the club’s emerging prospects.

This shows how highly the teenager is rated within the club.

Naturally a right winger, Lacey showed fearless intent against Villa by cutting inside and unleashing a late effort on goal.

Unfortunately for him, the strike was straight at goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who made an easy stop.

The Red Devils will face Newcastle United at Old Trafford next weekend.

Several players are already ruled out due to international duty and injuries.

For Lacey, it could be another golden chance to impress and take a meaningful step towards cementing his place in Amorim’s first-team plans.
