Tottenham are best positioned to sign Joao Palhinha’s former midfield teammate
Tottenham Hotspur are keen on one of Europe’s top midfielders, who has recently fallen out of favour at his current club.
Tottenham Hotspur invested in their midfield last summer, signing Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich on loan with the option to buy.
The 30-year-old has enjoyed his time in North London up to this point, having provided a strong presence in the middle of the park. As well as this, he has scored some important goals, such as the stoppage-time equaliser against Wolves.
Spurs may look to sign another midfielder when the transfer window reopens, and there is another Bayern player on offer who Thomas Frank could play alongside Palhinha.
Tottenham could look to sign Leon Goretzka
Fichajes, as relayed by Caught Offside, report that Leon Goretzka has fallen out of favour at Bayern Munich and has reached a point of no return.
Spurs are reportedly best positioned to sign the Germany international, although West Ham have also made their interest known.
Goretzka’s contract expires in the summer, so Tottenham have the opportunity to agree a cut-price deal. With the club competing in the Champions League and being more likely than West Ham to compete for trophies, they are believed to be in a good position to sign the 30-year-old.
Goretzka could start ahead of Rodrigo Bentancur at Spurs
Tottenham fans have been frustrated by the performances of Rodrigo Bentancur this season, and Goretzka could be a more versatile option.
The Bayern wantaway is a box-to-box midfielder and offers more in attack than the Uruguayan. Pairing him with Palhinha and one of Lucas Bergvall or Xavi Simons could provide Spurs with a better balance in midfield, so Goretzka is definitely worth considering.
