'Stunning watch': Gary Neville backs Man Utd man after what he did vs Bournemouth

0 15

Manchester United had to share the spoils with Bournemouth after a dramatic 4-4 draw at Old Trafford yesterday.

Ruben Amorim has faced criticism for his in-game management in recent weeks, but this time his decision-making hit the mark when it mattered most.

The United manager drew praise from former captain Gary Neville.

He said (via Sky Sports): “It was a stunning watch. I was really critical after the Everton and West Ham games because of just the nature of the performance. I thought it was really bland.

“This was complete and utter opposite. I can live with that all day long in terms of a performance and a standard because they played with real intent, played the ball forward, always played at full pace.

“The way when United went 3-2 down and Ruben Amorim then went to 4-4-2 and did the right thing.

“Forget the system, he did the right thing. He got the right players on the pitch and were a massive threat.

“I enjoyed what I’ve seen tonight from those red shirts.”

Amorim got more right than wrong

The Portuguese coach was proactive, brave and decisive with his substitutions after the break.

Crucially, both the personnel and the timing of his changes felt spot on.

When United slipped 3–2 behind, Amorim showed real conviction by withdrawing Casemiro and introducing Kobbie Mainoo.

There was a strong temptation to keep the Brazilian on, especially with his earlier yellow card ruling him out of the Villa Park trip.

With 20 minutes left, he reshaped the side into a 4-4-2, shifting Luke Shaw to left-back and deploying Diogo Dalot on the right.

He bolstered the back line by introducing Lisandro Martinez and sacrificed Mason Mount for Benjamin Sesko, adding a clear aerial focal point up front.

With the score locked at 4–4 and the clock ticking down, Amorim rolled the dice once more by throwing on Patrick Dorgu and Joshua Zirkzee.

His intentions were right although United were unable to find the winner.

Amorim has been accused of playing it safe too often in recent outings, but this time he seized responsibility and that willingness to act was a refreshing sight.
