Tottenham run into major sticking point in January pursuit of 20-year-old midfielder

0 0

Fabrizio Romano explains why a Premier League club are reluctant to let a Tottenham midfield target leave in January.

Various central midfielders continue to be linked with Tottenham as we edge closer to the January window.

With Yves Bissouma not expected to have a future at Spurs following his latest controversy, it would not come as a surprise to see the Lilywhites strengthen in the middle of the park.

Various sources have claimed that Spurs are set to reignite their interest in Kobbie Mainoo after failing to get a deal over the line for the midfielder in the summer.

It has been widely reported that Napoli are at the front of the queue to land Mainoo in January, and there has now been a new update on the 20-year-old’s future.

Ruben Amorim is reluctant to let Tottenham target Kobbie Mainoo leave

A number of outlets have reported over recent weeks that Mainoo is keen to leave Old Trafford in search of regular game time, given that a spot in England’s World Cup squad is up for grabs next summer.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that as many as 10 clubs are now pushing to land the England international, including Napoli.

However, the journalist explained that Ruben Amorim is reluctant to let Mainoo leave in January, given that many of his players will be away at the African Cup of Nations.

Why Man Utd look set to offload Mainoo

It was claimed by ESPN last week that Man United would only let Mainoo leave if they sign another midfielder.

That now appears likely as reports indicate that Man United are considering making an offer for Spurs target Conor Gallagher.

Additionally, the Red Devils are also thought to be keen on landing Elliot Anderson, and they may be tempted to cash in on their academy graduate to raise funds for their pursuit of the Nottingham Forest man.
