Happy Christmas Girls! Girls’ Academy makes it nine wins in nine for the perfect Christmas present before the holiday break.
Match Report: Dartford Girls Academy 4 – 1 Chatham Town WFC U21
A final game before Christmas pulled no surprises as the Girls’ Academy triumphed once again.
It’s now nine wins in nine in the league for the team to stay top of the table at the festive break.
While not one of their vintage performances, the professional manner of the win, was enough to please Manager George Kingdon.
Local rivals Chatham were the visitors and the Darts created a chance 30 seconds into the game, which wasn’t taken – but almost immediately getting in front.
However, they were soon 1-0 up through the combination of Bella Taffs and Olivia Ajose, with Taffs flashing a ball across the box for the Ajose to score.
The second goal came five minutes later and once again it was a Taffs threaded pass into her in-form teammate Ajose, who calmly put the young darts 2-0 up.
Their third was a move off the training ground with Bella Taffs picking the ball up and picking out Hannah McLaughlin, who made a fantastic run. She picked up the ball on the edge of the box and then slotted it past the keeper on her weaker foot.
After half-time, the team started in the same way, but keeping possession well.
Chatham then scored after a short injury break, with a mistake at the back doing the damage. However, defensive mistakes have been few and far between this season, with just five goals conceded in nine matches
But Darts had time for another, with a ball being flashed across the box by Izzy Edgar, Ajose pinning her defender back to spin and shoot for the icing on the Christmas cake.
George said: “It was a really pleasing performance. We wanted to get the win to be top at Christmas and got it comfortably. It was a funny game. We created a lot, but the match seemed a bit slower. We’ve had a lot of illnesses in the camp, so it was good to get everyone out there and still working hard and putting some plays together straight off the training field.
“Bella and Olivia up top are both now on 12 goals and the personal milestones are really important to us all. The three up front are causing so much damage.
“Hannah and Ellie are running the show in midfield and this week proved how important it was to control the middle. But as a collective we are looking very good and that is the most pleasing aspect of it, taking each game as they come but overall I’m very pleased going into Christmas.”
