Ruben Amorim set to bench the last Man United star who scored vs Wolves
Manchester United are set to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium in the Premier League tomorrow evening.
While Man United start the game as favourites, Wolves will back themselves to register a surprise victory like Everton did at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are also struggling for form and have dropped to 12th in the league table.
They lost both of their league fixtures in the 2024-25 season with an aggregate score of 3-0.
United have not found the net against Wolves since their dramatic 4–3 victory in February 2024.
The United faithful will remember the game fondly, as Kobbie Mainoo scored the stunning winner in the 97th minute.
It was a moment of magic from the then 18-year-old midfielder.
He showed great dribbling skills in tight spaces before bending the ball home to win it at the death.
Mainoo went on to become a key figure as England qualified for the Euro final later that year.
Fast forward 22 months, and Mainoo is struggling to get any playing time under head coach Ruben Amorim.
He has yet to start in the Premier League this season and has played only 171 minutes.
Amorim remains unconvinced that Mainoo can operate as a holding midfielder and instead wants him to battle Bruno Fernandes for the number eight role.
Following the 1–1 draw with West Ham, Amorim hinted that Mainoo is unlikely to start at Molineux either, deepening concerns about his future.
The academy graduate is now growing increasingly frustrated and is pushing hard for a loan move in January.
However, his departure could turn a large section of United fans against Amorim.
