Man United given clear path to sign elite £44m striker, Arsenal also in the race
Manchester United have been handed a golden opportunity to sign a top striker next summer.
According to German outlet Sport Bild, Man United and Arsenal can sign Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy by activating the £44 million release clause in his contract.
Guirassy has flourished in the Bundesliga, transforming himself into one of Europe’s most clinical finishers at Dortmund.
In 67 appearances for the German giants, he has bagged 47 goals and nine assists.
United splashed around £73 million to recruit Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig earlier this summer.
Sesko has managed two goals and one assist from 12 outings, a modest tally that has sparked criticism from several pundits.
However, we believe the 22-year-old has settled in well and shown plenty of encouraging signs at Old Trafford.
That said, United desperately need to strengthen their squad depth with genuine quality.
Joshua Zirkzee has been handed only one start this season and failed to grasp his opportunity.
Chido Obi may be an extraordinary talent, but at just 17, the club cannot afford to pile senior expectations on him too soon.
Rasmus Hojlund is currently on loan at Napoli and is expected to seal a permanent move to Serie A next summer.
The Red Devils are clearly in the market for a new striker, especially if they secure European football for next season.
Guirassy possesses a fantastic eye for goal and is in red-hot form for Dortmund.
However, INEOS have adopted an informal recruitment policy focused on signing players aged 25 or 26 and under.
Guirassy turns 30 next March and therefore sits outside the profile that United are trying to build.
Spending £44m on an ageing forward who has never played in the Premier League would be a huge risk.
