Sergio Lobera takes charge
Mohun Bagan’s new head coach is Spanish tactician Sergio Lobera, appointed in late November 2025; he is a two‑time ISL title winner known for an attacking, possession‑based style and prior success with FC Goa and Mumbai City FC.
Lobera was named the current ISL Champion’s head coach to replace José Molina and began work with the squad immediately.
Lobera is a Spanish coach with experience in European youth systems (including FC Barcelona’s youth setup) and an extensive record in Indian football, having managed FC Goa and Mumbai City FC before joining Mohun Bagan.
He left Odisha FC earlier in 2025 and returned to the ISL stage with Mohun Bagan.
Lobera has won the Indian Super League (ISL) title twice and secured League Shield honours during his stints in India, establishing him as one of the most successful foreign coaches in the competition’s history. His teams have consistently finished at or near the top of the table, combining high goal‑scoring records with strong possession metrics.
He is credited with implementing an attacking, high‑pressing system and developing Indian talent into key first‑team contributors.
Lobera favors possession‑oriented, attacking football with quick transitions and positional play; his sides are known for creating high-quality chances and controlling matches through ball retention.
He has a track record of improving forwards and midfielders, helping them adapt to a more technical, possession‑based approach.
The supporters can expect a tactical reset focused on regaining consistency and attacking fluency as Lobera integrates his methods with existing stars like Jamie Maclaren and Jason Cummings.
We wish him all the best.
