Red Sox Urged To Sign Phillies Superstar To Build ‘Dream’ Lineup

The Boston Red Sox made a trade to bolster their starting rotation, adding Sonny Gray to the mix. Craig Breslow noted on Tuesday that the team could shift its focus to position players now.

Among the star players available on the open market is three-time All-Star Kyle Schwarber. He is one of the best hitters and would fill Boston’s need for a power hitter. Schwarber was great for the Red Sox in his brief stint with the team in 2021, and FanSided’s Christopher Kline urged the Red Sox to sign him to build their “dream lineup.”

“The Boston Red Sox are expected to hunt big game this offseason,” wrote Kline. “Craig Breslow can win over the fanbase with two simple moves: re-signing Alex Bregman, probably to the five- or six-year deal he desired last winter, and poaching Kyle Schwarber from Philadelphia.”

Schwarber played 41 games for the Red Sox in 2021. He made his mark by hitting seven home runs and posting a .957 OPS. Alex Cora said he was “very intrigued” by the three-time All-Star’s free agency this past season.

The Red Sox hit the third-fewest home runs in all of baseball after Aug. 1. Adding Schwarber would go a long way in fixing their power inconsistencies. He was the National League MVP runner-up last seaosn and led the National League in home runs.

Schwarber also had 136 RBIs, leading baseball. Adding him to a lineup that features Bregman and Roman Anthony could change the outlook of the Red Sox offense. Schwarber will not be cheap, but Breslow seems determined to build an elite squad in Boston.

Schwarber could slot in as the everyday designated hitter, just as Rafael Devers did before he was dealt to the San Francisco Giants. Spotrac projects Schwarber to sign a four-year, $99 million deal.
