Celtics’ G-Leaguer Earns Big Award After Dominant Two-Game Stretch

The Boston Celtics are starting to draw some attention across the NBA, thanks to the fact that they have won four of their past five games. In the G League, though, one of their two-way players is beginning to turn heads with his strong play for the Maine Celtics.

That player would be guard Ron Harper Jr., who has taken on a big role for Maine early on in the new G League campaign. While Harper has already taken the court for Boston three times this year, he’s been getting some more work in with Maine this month.

The early returns on Harper’s play are quite encouraging. In the team’s two games last week, Harper averaged 36 points, seven assists and six rebounds per game while shooting 56% from the field. Those big numbers did not go unnoticed, as they earned Harper the G League Player of the Week Award.

“Can’t stop Ron Harper Jr.! The Celtics Two-Way signee was named G League Player of the Week after putting up 36.0 PPG and scoring a career-high 46 PTS during a 2-0 stretch for the Maine Celtics,” the NBA’s official G League account shared in a post on X.

While Harper’s younger brother, San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, is more well-known, he still has quite a bit of potential himself. Playing well in the G League and the NBA are two very different things, but Harper has proven that he could become a key bench piece for Boston in the future.

For now, Harper will continue leading the way in the G League for Maine, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get some more minutes with Boston in the future if he keeps playing at this level. In the NBA, the Celtics will be back in action on Wednesday night, as they will look to snap the Detroit Pistons’ 13-game win streak.
