Mike Vrabel Reveals Will Campbell Injury Return Timeline In Reassuring Update

The Patriots apparently dodged a major bullet on Sunday.

During New England’s road win over the Cincinnati Bengals, rookie tackle Will Campbell suffered a knee injury that, at the time, appeared serious. However, head coach Mike Vrabel on Monday revealed that Campbell could return relatively soon.

“He won’t be out there this week,” Vrabel told reporters. “It’s going to be a couple weeks. We’ll have to make a decision here on the roster to see how long that will be, and go from there. But it’s nothing that’s going to, hopefully, put him out for the entire season.”

Vrabel’s update followed a report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, who revealed that Campbell suffered an MCL sprain and is a “candidate” for injured reserve but could return for the playoffs.

As for Jared Wilson, Vrabel said it was “too soon to tell” whether the rookie left guard would miss the rest of the season.

“(We’ll) see how the week of practice goes or see how the rehab goes,” Vrabel said. “See how he responds there.”

Rapoport reported that Wilson suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday’s win over the Bengals, and that “the hope” is his recovery will be shorter than the four-to-six weeks typically required for similar injuries.

The Patriots likely will play Vederian Lowe at left tackle and Ben Brown at left guard for the foreseeable future. They’ll host the New York Giants next Monday night.
