Amorim finally loses patience with one Man United man, tells him to 'improve in training'
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has delivered a blunt and unmistakable warning to one of his big-name players.
Manuel Ugarte has been in poor form in the 2025-26 season and his woes are set to deepen after hearing what Amorim said about him at the recent press conference.
The Portuguese head coach admitted that Ugarte is “struggling” and that he “needs to adapt” to the demands of Premier League football.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “You can sense that a lot of very good players come here and sometimes they struggle.
“He is struggling in the moment, but it is our job to try and help our players. Again, everything can change.
“You saw it, five weeks ago, the environment was completely different.
“I know that Ugarte is struggling in the moment and my job is to help him to feel, as a player, like I felt when he was a Sporting player.
“But it’s a different role and he needs to adapt, and he needs to improve, especially in training.”
Ugarte must improve quickly to salvage his United career
The 24-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of £42 million in the summer of 2024.
At the time, it looked like a masterstroke, given Ugarte’s reputation for relentless pressing and elite ball-winning ability.
However, his weaknesses in possession have repeatedly cost United, with the midfielder making careless mistakes far too often.
Even his defensive contributions have dipped dramatically this season.
He was at fault for both goals in the chaotic 2–2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, leaving fans frustrated.
Ugarte has all the raw tools to succeed at Old Trafford, but lapses in concentration continue to undermine his talent.
Amorim’s latest comments could not be more direct. The message has been delivered loud and clear.
The manager believes Ugarte still has not adapted to English football, which explains why he has started just two Premier League games this season.
The midfielder must understand how to balance his instinct to hunt down opponents with the risk of leaving spaces in central areas that teams can exploit.
