Marco Sturm Provides Injury Update On Bruins Star Charlie McAvoy

Boston Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy left Saturday’s game after he was hit in the head by a puck.

During the second period, McAvoy was struck in the face by a slap shot from Montreal Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson. The Bruins’ star was bleeding and needed help off the ice.

Following Boston’s 3-2 road win over the Canadiens, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm provided an injury update on McAvoy.

“He’s doing okay, he’s just getting some testing done,” Sturm said on Saturday, as seen on NESN’s postgame show. “We’re going to try to get him home as soon as possible, hopefully tonight with us. But other than that, hopefully he’s going to be okay.”

McAvoy had 13:41 of ice time and recorded three blocked shots before exiting the game due to an injury.

Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov, meanwhile, said it was emotional seeing McAvoy go down and had to be helped off the ice.

“It was definitely emotional when you see your teammate go down like that,” Zadorov said. “The game is on, adrenaline is pumping. No time to think about that.”

Along with McAvoy, Bruins forward Viktor Arvidsson left the game with 5:12 remaining in the third period due to a lower-body injury.

“He’s going to be out, lower body,” Sturm said about Arvidsson. “I don’t know how long. I suppose we’re going to have to wait and see.”

Despite losing two key players, the Bruins picked up a big road win over Montreal on Saturday. With the win, Boston improved to 12-8-0 and is atop the Atlantic Division.
