Bruins Ride ‘Outstanding’ Penalty Kill En Route To Road Win Over Canadiens

The Boston Bruins picked up a big 3-2 road win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Boston had its seven-game winning streak snapped on Thursday in a 5-3 road loss to the Ottawa Senators. On Saturday, the Bruins got back on track as Boston defeated the Canadiens 5-3, in large part due to its penalty kill.

The Bruins’ penalty kill went a perfect 7-for-7, including two lengthy 5-on-3 opportunities in the first two periods, as Montreal had 1:27 of 5-on-3 in the first, and 1:49 of 5-on-3 in the second.

“That’s the mojo in hockey. If you don’t score 5-on-3, you don’t deserve to win,” Bruins forward David Pastrnak said on Saturday, as seen on NESN’s postgame show. “Our guys did an amazing job killing it, so I think at the end it’s a well-deserved two points, and obviously all the credit goes to the penalty-killing and ‘Sway’.”

Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov, meanwhile, called the penalty kill outstanding and the reason why they won.

“Outstanding. I thought it definitely won us the game,” Zadorov added. “Guys were laying on the ice, everything, you know, blocking shots, putting their faces in the shooting lane, and everything. So we take pride in it, and it was definitely big today and got us two points.”

With the win, the Bruins improved to 12-8-0 and are atop the Atlantic Division. Boston is also 8-2-0 in their last 10 games.

The Bruins will return to the ice on Monday when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.
