MLB Insider Shares Positive Red Sox-Alex Bregman Outlook
The Boston Red Sox are looking to go back-to-back… in their pursuit of third baseman Alex Bregman.
Bregman exercised the opt-out clause in his contract and entered free agency on Monday, according to numerous sources, forgoing the final two years left on the three-year deal he signed last offseason.
Bregman opting out doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll leave, however, as the veteran’s ultimate goal is widely believed to be earning a longer term deal after slashing .273/.360/.462 despite suffering an ill-timed injury, and showcasing his leadership skills with the club’s young core during his lone season in Boston.
The Red Sox will want him back in the fold, and received some good news about their upcoming pursuit from Jon Heyman of The New York Post on Wednesday.
“To me, the Red Sox are the team for Bregman,” Heyman said on a livestream for Bleacher Report.
Bregman’s decision will ultimately come down to the figures presented to him, though many believe the most likely scenario is that the two sides reunite for another go around — should no one present an overwhelming offer.
