Trevor Story Reveals Reason For Opting In To Red Sox Contract
Trevor Story believes he has some unfinished business with the Boston Red Sox.
Story, who opted in to the remaining two years on his deal with the club, sat down for an exclusive interview with NESN’s “310 To Left” podcast that is scheduled to premiere on Thursday — sharing exactly what went into his decision.
“To me, it’s pretty simple. There’s not another organization I want to be a part of. I’m just in love with the place, and got some unfinished business.” Story said, as shared by Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. “I came here for a reason, and we’re finally good. I’m not going to leave when it’s time to start skyrocketing.
“Also, just with the resources that we have being the Red Sox, we know that [the front office] and ownership are going to keep adding to the group. All things considered, it just feels like a rocket ship is about to take off.”
Story is now slated to finish out the six-year, $140 million pact he signed with Boston in 2022, a much happier reality after he finally found the success that had previously alluded him in 2025 — leading the club in home runs (25), runs batted in (96), stolen bases (31) and hits (161).
The Red Sox will now focus their attention on going back-to-back in their pursuit of third baseman Alex Bregman while also finding reinforcements to both the offense and pitching staff — via trade or free agency.
