Former Patriots QB Will Stay As Starter For This NFC Team
While New England Patriots starting quarterback Drake Maye continues to ascend as an elite talent, the guy he replaced has found success in the NFC.
You’re not thinking of Mac Jones and the San Francisco 49ers, right? Because we’re talking about Maye’s rookie-season mentor, Jacoby Brissett, who’s played well for the Arizona Cardinals this season.
In three straight starts filling in for an injured Kyler Murray, Brissett has put together one of the best stretches of any QB to play the game. OptaState on X listed out how Brissett’s first three starts for Arizona — where he’s completed 65% of his passes, thrown for over 850 yards, six touchdowns while rushing for one score — has only been done once before.
The other? When Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion quarterback Kurt Warner made his debut for the St. Louis Rams.
Does this mean Brissett will lead the Cardinals to the promised land? Heck no. Or will he eventually be enshrined in Canton? Obviously not
But Brissett has shown the grit that’s earned him 10 seasons in the NFL. Enough so that Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is sticking with Brissett as his starter for a fourth consecutive game.
The declaration of a starter on Tuesday displays Gannon’s confidence in Brissett to deliver, as he’s kept his starting QB decision a mystery until much later into the week.
Now, Brissett got the opportunity after Kyler Murray went down with a foot injury, and Gannon addressed that as well.
“Kyler will keep working on his health bucket.” Gannon shared after stating his starter. “I do like what the offense is doing right now, we’ve operated well and we’ll go from there.”
If Brissett keeps the operation on offense smooth and builds off his first win as a starter this season, maybe the Cardinals will stick with what is working on offense. Regardless, Brissett has found success once again in the NFL.
