Inside Advice: What two Man United stars told Lammens after his £18.2m move
Manchester United star Senne Lammens has enjoyed a fine start to his career at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old helped United claim their first clean sheet of the season against Sunderland and then played a crucial role in two victories over Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Lammens has now opened up on the words of wisdom he received from Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt upon his arrival in Manchester.
He said (via BBC Sport): “They told me I don’t need to be the most amazing or special goalkeeper, just to be there in important moments to give the team trust.
“It makes them more relaxed knowing someone is behind them who can help them.
“One of the key points of a goalkeeper is helping the defence with communication.
“I am proud of being calm and collected. But when the time is needed, I can be harsh or shout at team-mates. To have both characteristics is good.”
Senne Lammens has brought stability
The Belgian starlet completed an £18.2 million transfer from Royal Antwerp to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day.
Despite enjoying a sensational 2024-25 season, manager Ruben Amorim gradually eased him into the starting XI.
The youngster made his debut in the 2-0 win over the Black Cats and instantly won the support of the United faithful.
Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir had struggled to command their areas in the last two seasons, with United repeatedly punished for poor decision-making and nervous play from the back.
The arrival of Lammens has felt like a breath of fresh air.
His presence has restored confidence to a defence that had grown uncertain.
Maguire and De Ligt perfectly summed up to their new teammate what had been missing between the sticks.
At times, conceding corners almost felt like conceding goals.
Even simple back-passes would leave the defence uneasy.
United travel to the City Ground tomorrow to clash with Nottingham Forest.
The shot-stopper must aim to record his first clean sheet on the road and help the Red Devils win another three points.
