Ruben Amorim in line to make history after Premier League nomination

0 11

Manager Ruben Amorim is enjoying his best spell at Manchester United, beginning to silence his critics in the process.

United have won three consecutive Premier League games for the first time under him, including a 2-1 win over Liverpool that ended a nine-year wait for a win at Anfield.

Amorim has now been nominated for the league’s October Manager of the Month, marking his first-ever nomination for the award.

Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Unai Emery (Aston Villa) and Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) are the other nominees.

If Amorim goes on to win the award, he will become the first United manager to do so since Erik ten Hag claimed it in November 2023.

It would also represent a significant milestone for the Portuguese, given the barrage of criticism he has received for his tactical approach.

His much-maligned 3-4-3 formation has allowed United to string together positive performances over the last month.

United are now one of the best offensive teams in the division, scoring eight goals in the last three games — the joint-highest within that period.

In addition, United are also creating more quality chances, ranking second for expected goals (xG) this term.

The attacking improvement makes it unsurprising that sensational forward Bryan Mbeumo, has also been nominated for the Player of the Month.

However, Amorim still has work to do to make United a formidable side, particularly in defence.

The Mancunian giants have kept just one clean sheet this term and have conceded 14 goals from their opening nine league games.

A first Manager of the Month award would undoubtedly be massive for Amorim, but the real challenge is proving that the recent turnaround is not a flash in the pan.
