Celtics Breakout Star Capitalizing On New Opportunity
Josh Minott has only played four games for the Boston Celtics, but he’s already loving it.
After spending the first three seasons of his NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Minott joined the Celtics on a two-year, $5 million contract in free agency — a move that is already paying off for both sides.
With Boston’s diminished frontcourt, Minott has gotten to start for the first time in his NBA career, and he’s made the most of it. In two starts, he has 26 points, 23 rebounds, four steals, two blocks and a plus-50 plus/minus, making a huge impact on both ends of the floor.
The Celtics have won both of his starts by a combined 52 points, getting a major boost from him after losing their first three games of the season.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old forward is loving his new team and new city.
“I just love this place so much, man. This place just brings me so much happiness. My teammates, coaches, the staff… I’m talking top to bottom. I can’t thank God enough,” Minott said after Boston’s 125-105 rout of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.
Minott racked up a career-high 14 rebounds and scored 11 points against the Cavaliers, helping the Celtics to their second straight victory and first home win of the season.
He’s also enjoyed TD Garden’s atmosphere and the energy of Boston fans so far.
“I can’t even explain it, man. Just thanking God. Thanking the fans, just for the energy. My teammates… It’s just a blessing to be here, truthfully,” Minott said during a postgame interview.
Credit Brad Stevens for signing him and Joe Mazzulla for giving him a chance to start. Minott clearly appreciates the opportunity and is doing everything he can to keep his new role now that he’s earned it.
