Marcus Jones Breaks Silence On $36 Million Contract Extension
To say the past couple of days have been hectic for New England Patriots’ cornerback Marcus Jones may be an understatement. On Thursday, Jones was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month, and just a few days before that, he earned a three-year, $36 million contract extension from the Pats.
After entering the season on the final year of his rookie contract, Jones is in the process of putting together the best campaign of his young career. Not only has Jones stood out on defense, but he’s also reemerged as one of the top punt returners in the league.
With a new deal in place, Jones will be sticking around in New England for years to come. After news of the deal came to light, Jones took a second to open up and discuss what his big extension means for him.
“It means a lot,” Jones said on Wednesday. “I was drafted here so that was something that I loved, and then also them valuing me as a captain … And then also doing a lot of things in the community and stuff like that.”
In eight games, Jones has 36 tackles, two interceptions, nine pass deflections and one sack on defense, while also racking up 216 yards and a touchdown on 10 punt returns. Every week, Jones seems to find a way to make a big play that helps lead the Patriots to victory.
Fans should get used to seeing Jones star for them, because he’s under team control through the 2028 season. Jones will look to star again for New England in Week 9 when it takes on the Atlanta Falcons at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
