Thomas Frank reveals how Andreas Georgson has sparked Tottenham set-piece revolution

0 2

Following the win over Everton, Thomas Frank has spoken about the key improvements that Tottenham have made in set-pieces and has revealed what pleases him the most.

As soon as he walked through the door at N17 in the summer, Thomas Frank made set-pieces an important part of Tottenham’s training routine, and the improvement has been instant.

Spurs have gone from a side who were among the worst at defending and scoring set-pieces under Ange Postecoglou, to one of the best so far this season.

They had their set-piece prowess to thank again on Sunday as Tottenham emerged with a 3-0 win from Everton, owing to Micky van de Ven heading home from two corner-kicks in either half.

Thomas Frank highlights Tottenham players’ desire in set-pieces

The club’s new set-piece coach, Andreas Georgson, has been praised by the Tottenham players for his impact, and Frank acknowledged that Georgson and the club’s set-piece analysts have been crucial to the improvement.

However, the Tottenham head coach pointed out that the desire and commitment of the players to get on the end of the free-kicks and corner-kicks is just as important.

When asked about Georgson’s impact on the side, Frank said (via the club’s official website): “I agree that today, of course, we scored two goals, but it’s equally important that we can keep the ball out of the net.

“The team did very well, and I think Andreas and Sean, our set-piece analysts, have done a top job with the team throughout, from when we started to now.

“That’s both the structure of how we want to do it, but also we know when there’s a structure, but there’s also the physicality, and then you need the desire. The structure and principles are very clear.”

Frank loves the set-piece evolution across the Premier League

It is fair to say that indirect free-kicks, corner-kicks, and long throws are an increasingly important part of the game plan for teams across the Premier League.

The Tottenham head coach is a pioneer in some respects, having been one of the first to put great focus on those during his Brentford days.

Speaking ahead of the Everton game, Frank remarked that the focus on set-pieces has gone to a different level across the Premier League this season, admitting that he is a big fan of the evolution.
