'This is why': Alan Shearer praises 'incredible' Man Utd star, picks him in PL Team of the Week
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has picked one Manchester United player in his Premier League Team of the Week.
The Red Devils secured a third-straight league win following a 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
Bryan Mbeumo was the standout performer. The Cameroonian star scored his maiden brace for the Mancunian giants.
The 26-year-old has now registered five goals and one assist from 10 appearances since he arrived from Brentford last summer.
His latest performance against the Seagulls has earned him a spot in Shearer’s Team of the Week.
Shearer said: “This is why Man Utd were so keen to sign him. He was a constant threat against Brighton and produced two composed finishes.”
Aside from his goal contributions, the 26-year-old has also impressed with his tireless work rate and high pressing.
Mbeumo, hailed as ‘incredible‘ by manager Thomas Frank, has won almost 45 percent of his ground duels, while making 2.5 ball recoveries per game.
United have turned the corner with three consecutive victories, and they have the opportunity to extend the streak this weekend.
The Red Devils are scheduled to face struggling Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Saturday afternoon.
United have not won any of their last three league meetings against the Tricky Trees and will aim to end the unwanted record.
The club were previously on a three-game losing run against Brighton at Old Trafford, but there was a perfect response on Saturday.
Mbeumo has netted just once in his previous nine encounters against Forest, but he should fancy scoring this time around.
Forest have the third-worst defensive record this term, with 17 goals conceded from nine outings.
They are presently under a third manager in Sean Dyche after parting ways with Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou.
