Former Jets Star Nick Mangold Passes Away At 41

Nick Mangold, a former star center for the New York Jets, has reportedly passed away at the age of 41. The Jets franchise and ESPN’s Rich Cimini were among the messengers of the tragic news on Sunday morning.

Mangold announced 12 days ago that he was looking for a kidney donor. Per Cimini, Mangold “announced that he was diagnosed in 2006 with a rare genetic disorder and that he was undergoing kidney dialysis. He directed his message to the Jets and Ohio State communities, asking for a kidney because no one in his family shared his blood type.”

Mangold was one of the most successful centers in the NFL during his career, which spanned from 20016 to 2016, all with the Jets. He was name to the Pro Bowl seven times and first team All-Pro twice.

Mangold’s durability was elite. He didn’t miss a single game in his first five NFL season and ended up starting 164 of a possible regular season 176 games in his career for the Jets.
