Browns Elevate Ex-Patriots QB Off Practice Squad Before Week 8
Fans at Gillette Stadium may see a familiar face roaming the opposing sidelines when the New England Patriots host the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 action on Sunday.
“We’ve elevated DT Sam Kamara and QB Bailey Zappe from the practice squad,” the Browns official account posted on X on Saturday afternoon. “In addition, QB Shedeur Sanders (back) has been added to the injury report with a questionable status.”
The Patriots selected quarterback Bailey Zappe in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and the Western Kentucky product appeared in 14 games (eight starts) with the team across two seasons.
New England waived the 26-year-old in August 2024 but he quickly landed on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.
Zappe never appeared in a game with the Chiefs before Cleveland claimed him off Kansas City’s practice squad last October.
He played in and started one game with the Browns last season and re-signed with the Chiefs in March.
Zappe was released by Kansas City in August and signed with Cleveland’s practice squad two days later.
The fourth-year pro has recorded a 62.1% completion percentage with 2,223 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions across 15 career games.
