Jaylen Brown Discusses Adapting To His New Role With Celtics

Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown has stepped up as the team’s primary option while starting forward Jayson Tatum recovers from an Achilles tear.

Brown’s first two games as Boston’s top option were somewhat underwhelming. While he’s performing well individually, the Celtics unfortunately dropped both games.

After Boston lost 105-95 to the New York Knicks on Friday night, Brown acknowledged that he needs to step up and grow as a leader.

“I’m learning in this new role,” Brown said, via Celtics on CLNS. “Trying to find ways to make everybody around me better.”

Brown usually is the team’s second option when Tatum is on the court, so he’s adjusting to a whole new style of play. He’s now focusing on getting everyone involved, which can be pretty challenging to pick up on the go.

The Celtics face a challenging situation, as they not only miss Tatum but also lack key players like Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porziņģis and Al Horford, who all left during the offseason.

Brown isn’t only learning how to be the team’s No. 1 option, but he’s also trying to figure out how a handful of new players play, which will likely take a while.
