How to watch Aston Villa v Manchester City: kick-off time, TV channels and streams
Not so long ago, the prospect of playing against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Liverpool in consecutive Premier League fixtures wasn’t all that enticing.
Aston Villa struggled to get going in the 2025/26 season. They failed to win any of their first five Premier League matches despite having what various so-called supercomputers identified as the easiest start.
I’m sure Brentford in particular would have something to say about how statisticians and indeed naysayers like myself predicted their demise but the fact remains Villa should have been able to take more points from their first few games than they did.
Since then, Unai Emery has steered his team to three consecutive league wins. Last Sunday’s away victory at Tottenham Hotspur followed back-to-back home wins over Fulham and Burnley, leaving just one box left to tick on Villa’s way back to some sort of normal service: beat someone actually good.
Sunday’s game against Manchester City offers them the chance to do exactly that.
Pep Guardiola has warned his team about an over-reliance on Erling Haaland but the attacking spearhead has scored 11 goals in eight Premier League matches. 11! That’s a total nonsense. Utterly ridiculous.
If you were building a one-man team Haaland would be it, but Guardiola has other players to call upon too. City have climbed to second in the table having won five, drawn one and lost two of their eight matches. After the disappointment of 2024/25, there’s every chance they mount a genuine title challenge again this term.
