Drake Maye Sets Patriots Record In Week 7 Win Over Titans

Drake Maye wrote himself into the record book after another New England Patriots win.

The second-year quarterback led the Patriots to a 31-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Maye completed 21 of 23 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns in a nearly flawless game at Nissan Stadium.

After the win, the team’s communication department noted that Maye set a Patriots record for the highest single-game completion percentage (91.3) in franchise history with at least 20 pass attempts. He surpassed a benchmark set by Tom Brady (88.5%) in 2009.

Maye didn’t dink and dunk his way to the milestone either. Five of his completions went for over 20 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown pass to Kayshon Boutte in the first half’s closing minute.

Next Gen Stats noted that the touchdown traveled 52.6 yards in the air, making Maye the only quarterback with two passing touchdowns of over 50 yards air travel this season.

“Not just trying to be a Checkdown Charlie,” Maye said after Sunday’s game, per the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin.

Maye has quickly morphed into one of the league’s most accurate passers. He improved his completion rate to 74.1 percent, which narrowly trails Drew Brees’ single-season record (74.4) set in 2019.

At this rate, Maye will surpass Brady’s 68.9 percentage from 2007 as the highest single-season completion rate in Patriots history. He’s completed over 69 percent of his passes in each of New England’s last six games while averaging more than 9.0 yards per attempt five times.

Maye also hasn’t thrown an interception during New England’s four-game winning streak. The burgeoning MVP candidate will look to stay hot when the Patriots host the Cleveland Browns in Week 8.
