Deployed in his favoured left-wing role, Garnacho was hauled off at half-time after a disappointing showing.

He completed only seven passes and failed to create a single chance.

To make matters worse, he did not manage a single shot or deliver any accurate crosses.

Chelsea came alive after his substitution, smashing three past Forest through Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto, and Reece James.

United head coach Ruben Amorim has often highlighted the lack of physicality in his squad and Garnacho’s display echoed those concerns.

He showed his trademark pace to beat Nico Williams, only to lose his footing as the ball slipped beneath him.

He also attempted a bicycle kick, but it was far from perfect.

There is no doubt that Garnacho is a world-class talent but his attitude has perhaps outpaced his development over the past year.

That was the primary reason why United chose to cash in on their academy gem.

He should have kept his focus on improving as a player rather than questioning Amorim’s decision to bench him in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine could still evolve into a top-class signing for Chelsea, but that will only happen when he redirects his hunger towards growth and consistency.

Until then, his career remains a story of promise waiting to be fulfilled.
