De’Aaron Fox Trade Might Make Sense For Spurs Soon
The San Antonio Spurs have three special guards capable of supporting Victor Wembanyama along the road to making San Antonio a contender again.
De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and rookie Dylan Harper are somewhat redundant, however, and the Spurs would clarify their outlook by getting rid of one of them.
If you’re a believer that Castle is the most dynamic (and best) player of the three (as the author of this article does), trading Fox seems to be the logical move, provided that Harper delivers on his potential and shows some signs this season that he’s the real deal.
Fox can’t be traded until February 4 (one day before the 2026 NBA trade deadline), but that doesn’t mean a move can’t happen.
By trading Fox, the Spurs might be able to snag valuable first-round draft capital away from a team like the Brooklyn Nets.
Fox signed a $229 million extension with the Spurs that has him locked in until 2029-30. At 27, he’s just begun his prime and could appeal to the Nets as a guy who could come in and be the face of their rebuild.
Conveniently, Michael Porter Jr.’s contract would match up with Fox in a trade, and the Spurs would only have Porter on the books for one more season past 2025-26.
San Antonio should call up the Nets and ask them how many first-rounders they’d be willing to attach to Porter in a trade for Fox.
