DeMario Douglas Shares Foreshadowing Message From Patriots Teammate Before Big TD
DeMario Douglas brought the fireworks early to Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Saints.
The New England Patriots wideout connected with quarterback Drake Maye on a 53-yard touchdown pass to put the Patriots up 7-3 just over four minutes into the game.
It was one of a couple of big plays for young Patriots receivers in the 25-19 win, with Kayshon Boutte also grabbing a pair of touchdown passes at Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Douglas said after the game that special teams ace Brenden Schooler predicted pregame that the Pats would find paydirt when they called the play.
“Coach told me, ‘I’m going to call (the play). I’m going to call it early,'” Douglas said, via The Boston Globe. “In practice, it was hitting. My boy (Schooler), he told me, he said, ‘Yeah, I ain’t going to lie. That play is going to work.’ And I got in the end zone.”
The Patriots offense has shown more life the last few weeks than, frankly, the last few years. A trio of touchdown passes over 20 yards was a rarity not that long ago.
Fortunately for New England, the offense has seemed to return to the place where players on different sides of the ball are more than confident in what they can do.
