Speeding Ticket (29 replies)

After receiving such valuable advice on my parking ticket business last week, I am hoping the wisdom of SHA can assist with another motoring issue.
Despite nearly 20 years without any motoring offences (except a course for a parking offence), I’ve now been done for speeding 46 in a 40.
Fair cop really, HOWEVER on returning to to place where the offence happened I have discovered that the only camera warning sign is heavily obscured by the branches of a tree. I have a picture of this and I will try and download it.
I am torn between contesting the fine or accepting it in the hope of being offered a course.
Accumulating three points will impact both my car and work van insurance, which feels doubly punitive. This is why I am contemplating an appeal on the grounds of insufficient warning due to the obscured sign.
If I knew for certain I would be offered a speed awareness course, I would accept it. However, points will be costly in the long run. I am also concerned that an appeal might antagonise the authorities and reduce my chances of leniency and a course. Are there any other consequences of a failed appeal?
Are there any forums that discuss that discuss this type of thing?
I don’t know whether to stick or twist.
