College Football World Noticed 'Error' 30 Seconds Into Hulu's 'Chad Powers'

Hulu's new sports comedy series "Chad Powers" stars Glen Powell as a star quarterback who uses methods of disguise to make a return to college football after previously embarrassing himself in the national championship game years before.

Sounds like fun, but like many previous sports movies or series, you have to suspend reality to fully embrace the plot. In fact, some hardcore college football fans noticed what seems like a pretty significant error at the beginning of the show's first episode.

"Chad Powers" opens up with Powell as Russ Holliday, the quarterback of the Oregon Ducks. Oregon is facing Georgia for the national title at the Rose Bowl, which is where the College Sports Only X/Twitter account spotted the plot error.

"Started watching Chad Powers & noticed an error 30 seconds in — can you spot it?" College Sports Only asked its followers.

Several people in the comments quickly pointed out what College Sports Only was getting at.

"National Championship at the Rose Bowl?" one wrote.

"You got it — it can't be the Rose Bowl Game AND the College Football Playoff National Championship. They are 2 different games," College Sports Only responded.

What 'Chad Powers' got wrong

In the modern College Football Playoff era, College Sports Only is correct. The College Football Playoff National Championship is its own separate entity, while games like the Rose Bowl can only serve as a quarterfinal or semifinal matchup.

If the show was set in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) era, it is possible that the Rose Bowl could serve as the national title game, as it did when Texas and Vince Young defeated USC in their all-time clash 20 years ago.

However, the logo in the top left corner of the screenshot in the tweet above displays the College Football Playoff logo next to the phrase "national championship," which means this does indeed look like a goof on the writers' part.

Doesn't ruin the show by any means, but like we said, you can't rely on sports entertainment programs to be totally 100% accurate.
