Man United staff wowed by 20yo starlet in training despite 'unfair' snub
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo finds himself at a crossroads, with his Old Trafford future hanging in the balance.
Manager Ruben Amorim has trusted him with just one start in seven matches, against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
According to the reliable insider Sully Talkz, United staff have been “impressed with Kobbie Mainoo’s professionalism and attitude in training” this season.
They feel that the lack of chances so far has been “unfair” to the academy graduate.
Mainoo has come off the bench in the Premier League four times but has only seen 100 minutes of action.
That includes a cameo of just three minutes against Chelsea, while he was left as an unused substitute against Arsenal and Fulham.
Amorim has faced several questions in press conferences about his reluctance to trust Mainoo.
The 20-year-old needs to work hard to meet his immense potential but he definitely deserves more game time than Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.
Amorim has been vocal about the two areas Mainoo needs to improve.
He believes the Englishman needs to increase his pace to thrive as a number eight in his 3-4-2-1 formation.
He wants him to add more dynamism to his game by surging forward in attack and still racing back to help defensively.
The Portuguese was also quick to point out that Mainoo needs to improve his positional awareness if he is to earn trust as a holding midfielder.
The youngster has a tendency to leave his position to contribute in the final third after winning possession.
Mainoo wanted to leave on loan late in the summer with Napoli his preferred destination.
However, United wanted him to stay and fight for his place.
It is great to see that the academy graduate is keeping his head down and focussing on refining his skillsets.
That attitude underlines his determination to make it at Manchester United.
Amorim must start showing faith in the young midfielder soon, or else he will be forced to find a new club next summer.
