Why Former NBA Coach Attended First Day Of Celtics Practice
The Celtics began their fall practices on Tuesday, and a notable former NBA coach was in attendance, watching from the sidelines. WEEI’s Justin Turpin reported that former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins attended Boston’s practice.
Jenkins coached the Grizzlies for six seasons before the team fired him in March, despite holding a 44-29 record at the time.
It seems that Jenkins will not be staying in Boston much longer. Current Celtics forward Xavier Tillman, who played three and a half seasons under Jenkins, told the media on Tuesday that his former head coach will be stopping at other NBA teams this month.
“He’s taking a couple of times and opportunities to come check out other teams, see how they operate, see what he can take from their game, and mold into his when he gets back into it,” Tillman said, via Hardwood Houdini. “So, it was great to see him. He was just here, kind of seeing how we do things around here.”
Although Jenkins does not currently hold a coaching position, he will likely secure one in the near future. He probably visited Boston’s practice to observe how it operates and to see how he can adapt those methods to his own coaching style.
