Shock recall: Amorim to bring forgotten Man United man back to first team
Manchester United have added a surprise name to their first-team squad.
According to the Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, Tyrell Malacia is back in manager Ruben Amorim’s squad with immediate effect.
Amorim is ready to give Malacia a serious chance to fight his way back into the team.
The left-back was one of the five members of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ who were told to find new clubs in the summer.
The other four players, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho, completed their exits from United before the transfer deadline.
Rashford and Sancho sealed loan transfers to Barcelona and Aston Villa respectively.
Garnacho and Antony joined Chelsea and Real Betis, with United making around £60 million from their sales.
Malacia has been training with the United Under-21s for the last couple of weeks.
It was reported recently that his intensity in training is “off the charts” and his attitude is “an example for everybody else”.
The 26-year-old came close to joining La Liga side Elche CF but the negotiations between the two clubs broke down in the final week of the transfer window.
He was also linked with a move to Turkish outfit Eyupspor but the deal collapsed.
He is in the final year of his deal at United, and the club were not ready to seal his exit without a permanent fee clause.
It is a major surprise that Malacia is now integrated back into the squad.
Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot are fighting for the left wing-back spot, while Diego Leon is also waiting in the wings.
With the Red Devils set to play fewer fixtures, Malacia may be used only in case of an emergency if both Dorgu and Dalot are unavailable.
This could also be a strategic move from United to increase his transfer market value before finalising a sale in January when transfer window reopens.
