History repeating: United face Sancho-type blunder with latest loan agreement

0 10

Barcelona sporting director Deco has finally lifted the lid on the agreement struck with Manchester United for Marcus Rashford.

He told Mundo Deportivo: “We signed Marcus on a simple loan with an option to buy. It’s not an high fee.

“There are no penalties if we do not sign him permanently. He’s doing great, we are very happy… the final decisions come later.”

Rashford completed his dream move to the Spanish giants this summer.

The deal sees Barcelona cover his full salary, with an option to make the move permanent next summer for a modest £26 million fee.

The Catalans were searching for a versatile attacker capable of playing wide and through the middle and Rashford fit the bill perfectly.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a bright start to his life in Spain.

He has earned an assist in each of the last four La Liga games.

He scored a magnificent brace in the UEFA Champions League clash with Newcastle United last month, helping his side to earn the 2-1 away victory.

His sparkling form has also earned him a recall to the England squad under manager Thomas Tuchel.

A permanent move next summer could prove the best outcome for all parties.

However, Deco’s admission has raised doubts about United’s transfer business.

Chelsea had an obligation to sign Jadon Sancho last summer for £25m.

They wriggled free by paying a £5 million penalty, leaving United scrambling to send Sancho on loan to Aston Villa on deadline day.

Deco has essentially confirmed that Barcelona can walk away without paying a penny if they decide not to sign Rashford permanently.

Should that happen, the England international would return to Old Trafford to collect his more than £300,000-a-week wages.

The Red Devils can now only hope that Barcelona trigger the permanent clause, allowing them to reinvest the funds into the squad next summer.

Rashford remains a gifted forward who has never spoken ill of his boyhood club.

He must use his prime years away from the intense media scrutiny he faces at Old Trafford.
