'Green light' awaited: Man United man makes special 'request' to play after Amorim snub
Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia was one of the five members of the infamous ‘bomb squad’.
The Red Devils put him on the transfer market, but the unavailability of suitors forced Malacia to stay at Old Trafford.
Amorim confirmed last week that the 26-year-old is training with the defenders.
The Daily Mail have now revealed that Malacia has requested to play for the Under-21s, but has yet to receive the green light.
The report further revealed that his intensity was described as “off the charts” and his attitude as “an example for everybody else”.
Malacia was the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era.
He is part of the long list of transfer failures in United’s recent history.
The left-back spent 550 days on the sidelines with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
Multiple surgeries were required in his recovery but he disappointed on his return.
He spent the second half of the 2024–25 season on loan with PSV Eindhoven, but failed to impress during his stint back in the Eredivisie.
La Liga side Elche and Turkish outfit Eyupspor came close to signing him this summer but the deal eventually collapsed.
Malacia is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and could walk out as a free agent next summer.
His road back to the United first team is completely blocked, but it remains to be seen whether he will be given the chance in development teams to become match-fit before the January window reopens.
