Amorim fires back at critics, accuses them of two-faced reactions

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has fiercely fired back at his critics after a tough start to the 2025-26 season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim said: “I remember that all the media and fans were saying that a Manchester United manager must have a philosophy and an identity.

“Everyone was saying that when the previous coach said he couldn’t play the same way here as he did at his former club.

“Everyone was saying that he had been hired for his philosophy and his style of play, and that he wasn’t applying it here.”

Amorim was right to slam the media, reminding them how his predecessor was targeted for abandoning the Ajax blueprint that earned him the Old Trafford job.

Erik ten Hag struggled to transplant his high-octane approach to the Premier League, with a squad that simply could not cope with the physical demands of his system.

He added: “So, the system isn’t the problem. It’s the results. If you don’t win, people will point the finger at something. We will change our way of playing, but it will take time. I do things at my own pace.”

Amorim has also hinted that he is open to making small tweaks to his side, but only when he feels the time is right.

The Portuguese head coach has always been honest in his interviews.

This has been his standout trait and has helped him remain at the club despite a win percentage of only 30–35%.

However, football is ultimately a results business, and honesty can only take a manager so far.

The Red Devils have clearly shown improvement this term.

United look more proactive this season, seeing more of the ball and creating chances, but defensive lapses and a fragile midfield have undone much of that progress.

One win from five games leaves the Red Devils walking a fine line, and tonight’s clash with Chelsea could be season-defining.

INEOS have so far stood firmly behind their manager, but the supporters will quickly understand if patience runs out should results fail to turn.
