Serie A | Verona 1-1 Juventus: Conceicao not enough for Old Lady
Juventus lost their 100 per cent record and were saved by the offside flag in their 1-1 draw away to Hellas Verona, as Gift Orban cancelled out the Francisco Conceicao opener.
The Bianconeri were coming off two wild thrillers, beating Inter 4-3 to maintain their 100 per cent Serie A record, then fighting back from 4-2 down to hold Borussia Dortmund 4-4 in the Champions League. Francisco Conceicao returned from injury, while Andrea Cambiaso’s two-match Serie A ban had expired, meaning only Fabio Miretti and Arek Milik were still out. Hellas had just two points from three rounds, missing Roberto Gagliardini, Tomas Suslov, Nicolas Valentini, Daniel Mosquera, Daniel Oyegoke, Abdou Harroui and Fallou Cham.

There was tension early on, as Federico Gatti was booked for a tussle with Domagoj Bradaric, then his weak headed back-pass allowed Gift Orban to pounce forcing a tricky Michele Di Gregorio save.
Francisco Conceicao made his season debut and had an immediate impact, as he gathered from Khephren Thuram to cut inside from the right and drill between a defender’s legs into the far bottom corner with his left foot from the edge of the area.
VAR intervened when a long Bradaric throw-in was flicked down onto the arm of Joao Mario, resulting in a Verona penalty. Di Gregorio got a hand to it, but was only able to push it onto the underside of the crossbar to bounce in for the equaliser.
After the restart, a quickly-taken Kenan Yildiz throw-in sent Dusan Vlahovic on the attack, forcing Lorenzo Montipò to parry with an outstretched foot at the base of the near post.
Unai Nunez charged down the ferocious Kenan Yildiz strike, then Hellas went on the counter, Di Gregorio flying to palm the Orban screamer over the bar.
Vasilije Adzic fired straight at Montipò and Orban failed to make the most of two promising Verona counter-attacks, but Hellas thought they had taken the lead on 68 minutes. A corner was flicked on by Nunez to the back post for the Suat Serdar header from point-blank range, but VAR spotted the offside position and it was disallowed.
Verona kept pushing, Orban’s angled drive flashing just wide and Di Gregorio getting down to palm the well-taken Martin Frese half-volley out of the bottom corner.
Lois Openda stung Montipò’s gloves at the near post and then his cross seemed to surprise Andrea Cambiaso at the back post, blocked off by Bradaric.
