Injury boost: £55m Man Utd man is 'ready' for Chelsea clash, he has 5 G/A in 5 games

Manchester United are in line to receive a major boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told The United Stand that forward Matheus Cunha is pushing to make his return this weekend.

He said: “Cunha has been working with a personal trainer and he’s been telling people he will be ready for the Chelsea game.

“Let’s see if Ruben Amorim agrees.”

The 26-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-2 victory over Burnley last month.

He was tasked with leading the line but was unfortunately taken off early in the first half due to the setback.

In his absence, Amad Diallo started against Manchester City on Sunday but struggled to make any real impact.

Despite failing to score in his first four United appearances, Cunha has already shown why he is central to Ruben Amorim’s attacking plans.

The Brazilian brings directness, intensity, and a fearless edge to the final third.

He is someone who thrives on the responsibility of having the ball at his feet.

There is already a growing understanding between him and Bryan Mbeumo, who is expected to retain his spot in the right-sided number 10 role.

A front three of Cunha, Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko is good enough to cause problems for Chelsea’s defence.

Cunha also has an excellent record against the London side in the Premier League.

The £55 million-rated star has netted four goals and recorded an assist in five games.

This update from Jacobs will also put additional pressure on Amorim to play Cunha.

If the manager opts to play it safe and leaves Cunha out, the backlash could be severe if Chelsea leave Old Trafford with all three points.

We believe that even if Cunha is only 80-90% fit, Amorim must still give him an opportunity from the bench.

He is a genuine game-changer, and his presence could very well decide the outcome on Saturday.
