London City vs Man United Women: Match preview, team news, where to watch

Manchester United Women face newly promoted London City Lionesses at Hayes Lane Stadium in the Women’s Super League on Sunday afternoon.

United got off to a flying start, beating Leicester City 4-0 in their opening fixture at Leigh Sports Village – their biggest home league win since beating Liverpool by the same scoreline last December.

By contrast, London City suffered a 4-1 defeat to Women’s Champions League defending champions Arsenal in their game.

Man United are heavy favourites for this clash, but need to shelve their European ambition to focus on the encounter.

United lost 1-0 to Norwegian side Brann in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Women’s Champions League on Thursday. They must better that result to qualify for the competition’s league phase.

However, they must focus on their clash against London City on Sunday to prevent an upset before shifting focus to their second leg clash with Brann next Thursday.

Jocelyn Precheur’s side will be desperate to win and will enjoy massive support from fans in their first-ever home game in the top-flight.

London City enjoyed an excellent record at home in the Championship last season, losing just once.

They last played United in the Championship in the 2018/19 season, losing both legs with an aggregate of 14-0.

Coach Marc Skinner has delivered positive news regarding some of his injured squad members. He confirmed that Gabby George and summer signing Fridolina Rolfo will be available for the game

Hannah Blundell could also stage a return after giving birth, having featured for the U21s against Leicester City.

However, Leah Galton and Simi Awujo are set to be unavailable.

London City have no major fitness concern heading into Sunday’s showdown.
