Sophomore running back Freddy Reier scored a pair of touchdowns to help the San Marin High football team pull away for a 28-6 road win against Moreau Catholic in Hayward on Friday night.

San Marin (3-0) took a 14-0 lead into the half after getting a rushing touchdown by quarterback Daniel Rolovich to open the scoring at 6-0. Reier pushed the lead to 14-0 with his first rushing touchdown in the second quarter and San Marin scored on a two-point conversion.

Moreau Catholic cut the lead to 14-6 but Rolovich hit Jack Golan on a 45-yard scoring pass in the third quarter to give the Mustangs a cushion. Reier scored again in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

“We made a lot of mental mistakes in the game and if we do that in the Adobe league, we’re going to be in trouble,” San Marin coach Dom DiMare said.

San Marin picked up its third consecutive road win to start the season and plays its home opener next Friday night against Casa Grande. The Mustangs defeated the Gauchos 39-38 last season on a last-second field goal by Nate Mandelbrot.

Redwood 35, Maria Carrillo 14

Running back Benjamin Harp scored two touchdowns and the Giants added two more scores on special touchdown to record their first victory of the young season on Friday night.

Harp ran for a touchdown to put the Giants (1-2) ahead early then Kevin Peterson recovered a blocked punt in Maria Carrillo’s end zone for a 14-0 advantage.

Dylan McGrath returned a punt for a touchdown to make it a 21-7 lead. Harp’s second touchdown gave the Giants a 28-6 lead then McGrath scampered 85 yards to cap the scoring for Redwood.
