Fitzgerald: I Can't Wait To Get Going

0 5

Irish midfielder Jessica Fitzgerald is hopeful her past football experiences will help her settle sharply at Hibs Women following her move to the Club from Peamount United.

The 19-year-old is a League of Ireland Premier Division champion, winning the league title with Peamount in 2023.

Fitzgerald was also named the 2023 PFA Ireland Young Player of the Year that same season following a breakout campaign for the Peas.

Now, the youngster finds herself arriving in Leith for a new challenge in Scotland with Hibs.

"I'm buzzing to meet all the girls and get in and start playing football," Fitzgerald told Hibs TV in her first interview with the Club.

"We arrived last night and the city is beautiful. Grant [Scott] showed us around just this morning and we're going to get lost maybe a few times around HTC!

"But, yeah, looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting started.

"I think from watching, the team has been doing well at the start of the season as well with two wins. I'm just looking forward to getting going with them as well."

A league championship triumph sealed UEFA Women's Champions League football for Fitzgerald in 2024.

This experience, alongside vast playing time with the Republic of Ireland Under-17s and Under-19s, which included European Championship participation with the latter, will only help the midfielder settle quickly in the capital.

"Hopefully it'll come to my favour and some experience winning trophies back with Peamount in Ireland, and playing in the Champions League.

"It's good experience, so hopefully it comes to my advantage in playing.

"I'm a midfielder. I like to get on the ball and work defensively as well.

"Now I'm just looking forward to getting to know the girls and trying to make connections with them."
