Queen's Park v Morton - Match preview

AFTER more than a month away from home, Queen’s Park are finally back at The city Stadium.

Following trips to Airdrie and Ayr, as well as the week without competitive football, Morton are this weekend’s visitors to Glasgow’s southside.

Both Sean Crighton and Jim Duffy are former employees of the Greenock team, but the Spiders management team are determined to register the first three points of the season fro Queen’s Park at their old club’s expense.

Not only that, the Spiders are seeking their first William Hill Championship victory in more than six months.

It’s been a long wait for the southside supporters but recent performances have lifted spirits with three draws on the road so far this season.

The one downside to the start to the season was the home reverse to Arbroath and all of a black and white persuasion are hopeful there’s no repeat some 35 days later.

The Season so far...

Queen’s Park have registered three points from four games to kick off the William Hill Championship campaign – but not in one game.

Not since the start of March have the Spiders won in the league – a 4-0 away day in Kirkcaldy, and the wait goes on to this weekend.

A positive performance to start the season against Raith Rovers at the scene of that springtime triumph set the season off on the right foot – and the trips away from Glasgow have been rewarded with a point each time.

However defeat to Arbroath in the second game of the season was a set-back, but not one that was dwelled upon and visits to Airdrie and Ayr saw return journeys mulling over what might have been.

Could it be this week?

Morton are another side without a win in the league this season. Like the Spiders they’ve registered plenty of draws, but suffered their first defeat of the campaign to Raith Rovers at Cappielow last weekend.

Josh Fowler won, and scored, a penalty in Ayr

Having played a game more, Dougie Imrie and Billy Davies’ side sit one point ahead of Sean Crighton and Jim Duffy’s team heading into Saturday’s game at the sold out city Stadium.
