Man United confirm exit of £47m star after training ground drama with Amorim

Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Andre Onana to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

Onana joins the Super Lig side on loan with Trabzonspor not having an option to buy next summer.

The Turkish club will not pay any loan fee to Man United but will cover the goalkeeper’s full wages.

Onana is set to earn nearly double what he did at Old Trafford, thanks to signing-on fees, bonuses, and a more favourable tax rate.

The 29-year-old was initially told by United that he would be their first-choice shot-stopper for the 2025–26 season.

However, things took a drastic turn after he suffered a hamstring injury on the second day of pre-season.

He also expressed his desire for a new contract with higher wages to offset the pay cut he incurred after United failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

His relationship with head coach Ruben Amorim broke down after he reportedly refused to acknowledge him in training before the international break.

Onana moved to United from Inter Milan in a package worth £47 million in the summer of 2023.

He was tasked with replacing David de Gea, who had been almost ever-present between the sticks for United.

Expectations were high for the former Champions League finalist, but he made several high-profile errors and lost the support of the fans.

Onana has played 102 games for the Red Devils but managed to keep only 24 clean sheets.

He conceded 150 goals, with 18 errors directly leading to goals.

United signed Senne Lammens from RB Leipzig on the British transfer deadline day.

The 23-year-old is expected to compete with Altay Bayindir for the gloves at Old Trafford this season.

Lammens is a highly promising goalkeeper, and he could make his debut as early as Sunday, when United face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
