Man United man close to exit after broken promise from the club
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is on his way to Turkey for a medical ahead of his loan transfer to Trabzonspor.
According to journalist Peter Hall, Onana turned down a move to Monaco earlier this summer after he was told he would retain his position as the first-choice between the sticks.
He is expected to complete his loan move in the next few hours with the Turkish window open until 12 September.
Trabzonspor will neither pay any loan fee nor have the option to buy him permanently next summer.
The 29-year-old is set to draw a higher paycheck at his new club due to signing-on fees, bonuses, and a more favourable tax rate.
Onana must take responsibility for his performances
We believe the story could be driven by the agent of the player to save face.
Onana has made several high-profile errors at United since arriving from Inter Milan in 2023.
Expectations were high for the Cameroon international after his starring performances for Inter.
He never lived up to those expectations, forcing United to part ways with him.
Signing a goalkeeper was not a priority for the Red Devils at the start of the window.
However, Onana suffered a hamstring injury on just the second day of pre-season.
He also voiced his desire for a new contract that would cover the 25% reduction in wages after the club failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Head coach Ruben Amorim was left unimpressed with these moves and chose Altay Bayindir to start the first three Premier League games this season.
Onana was given the starting role at Grimsby where he was at fault for both goals.
United signed Senne Lammens on the British transfer deadline day, effectively pushing Onana to the Old Trafford exit door.
The Cameroonian reportedly refused to acknowledge Amorim in training before the international break, further validating United’s ruthless decision to offload him.
Amorim is right to feel that Onana’s exit has cleansed the last remaining negative influence at the training ground.
The club are likely to offload him permanently next summer after he returns from Turkey.
