Serie A resumes with exciting Derby d’Italia, Fiorentina vs. Napoli and more

0 12

Serie A returns this weekend after a busy international break, and although Juventus-Inter will be the game to watch, other intriguing fixtures will catch the fans’ eyes, including Napoli’s trip to Fiorentina.

Club football returns this weekend, and of course, Serie A will make no exception as Round 3 will unfold from Saturday, September 13 to Monday, September 15, in Italy’s top flight.

The Derby d’Italia in Turin between the Old Lady and the Nerazzurri is the first big game of the season in the Peninsula, and the outcome has already been predicted by fans through bet online.

Juventus have secured back-to-back victories against Parma and Genoa, keeping two clean sheets and seeing their departing striker Dusan Vlahovic score on both occasions.

Inter’s season, on the other hand, kicked off with a comfortable 5-0 win over Torino, which was followed by an unpredictable Udinese victory at San Siro before the September break.

The Allianz Stadium showdown will start at 18:00 CET (17:00 BST) on Saturday, September 13, followed by another exciting clash, Fiorentina-Napoli at 20:45 CET.

The defending Serie A champions have also collected six points in the opening two league games, while Fiorentina earned two with away draws against Cagliari and Torino.

It’s the first home match of the season for Fiorentina, who played their first two away from the Stadio Franchi due to refurbishment works.

Milan and Roma will take centre stage on Sunday, hosting Bologna and Torino respectively.

The Rossoneri will host Bologna at 20:45 CET, while the Giallorossi will play the first lunchtime game of the season with kick-off time at 12:30 CET at the Stadio Olimpico.

Milan and Bologna have three points each and meet for the first time since the Rossoblu won a historic Coppa Italia against the Rossoneri this past May.

It’s effectively a game between direct rivals as Bologna aim to keep a European placement this season and potentially fight for a Champions League qualification for the second time in three years.

Roma will host a struggling Torino, who have yet to score their first goal this term after a 5-0 loss at Inter and a goalless stalemate against Fiorentina in the previous round.

Elsewhere in Round 3, Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio will meet a Sassuolo side who lost both their opening league games, while Atalanta host Lecce, possibly giving ex-Giallorossi striker Nikola Krstovic his first start following Gianluca Scamacca’s injury.

On Monday, Cesc Fabregas’ Como will host Patrick Vieira’s Genoa, in a game between Arsenal legends on the bench, while Jamie Vardy could make his Serie A debut in Cremonese’s away match at Verona.
